ponte vecchio reflections, florence, 1998

Taken at dusk, this photograph of Florence's most famous bridge was taken from Lungarno Archibusier (yes, i had to look that up), the street you come to at the end of the Uffizi Gallery. The usually frantic bridge, with all its shops closing for the day, seemed uncharacteristically peaceful. The strange aspect of this scene for me were the tables and chairs set up in a picnic fashion by the water at the bottom right. It brought a sense of intimacy that felt out of place to an otherwise very commercial and popular tourist destination.

For the long exposure in this photograph I used a small tabletop tripod along the stone railings hugging the Arno River. Lens: 50mm
