copy of david 2, palazzo vecchio, florence, 1998

All I could think about when I took this picture was "I have to get this shot before the sun moves off David's head!" The late afternoon sun sets quickly, so as I looked up from the base of The Palazzo Vecchio, I was at first disappointed that the sun had already moved off much of David (a reproduction, the real David is in the Galleria dell'Accademia). Then I noticed how nicely the interplay of light was split between David on the left and the lion on the right. I was also drawn to the fleur-de-lis motif in the background because it reminded me of Quebec! The David in shadow all of a sudden became very interesting. Lens: 85mm
