I first started photographing the shadows cast by the stairways because in the strong sunlight, it became difficult to tell the difference between the stairway and its shadow. The alleyways of the city seemed to tell such a different story than its face. Then as I walked away I took this shot to remind myself of the alley and its context. I realized that it was really this last shot that captured my feelings best since it shows the contrast in character I was experiencing as I walked around.
