bio, chicago, 2002

This is a classic old theatre in Lincoln Park surrounded by consignment stores. The dusk sunlight was perfect to illuminate the brickwork, yet dark enough for the light bulbs to glow. Compositionally, the focus of this image is pattern. They are grouped in threes, the three sections of the roof beams, the three windows, and the three letters. The pattern of the marquee lights holds it together. I also like the way the neon letters are so different in style than the painted letters underneath.
